The knife in the picture is a Swamp Rat Knife Works Battle Rat. It has a 9" SR-101 blade. SR-101 is their proprietary steel, similar in composition to 5160. The handle is made of a rubber-like compound called Resiprene C. It's retail price is slightly less than $200. It is currently unavailable, but will be back soon. The website is www.swampratknifeworks.com.

These pictures were taken at a large knife show. The knife in use has a factory edge. It was sharp enough to shave before the demonstration began. At the end of the test, the knife was dull, but the edge was undamaged. It was re-sharpened using a common sharpener device. No special equipment was needed.

You will notice that the knife is actually cutting into the concrete block. It is not merely smashing it.

I believe that all of my in-laws should have these knives in their homes and cars. If there is an earthquake, and you need something to cut, chop, smash, and pry with, then this is what you need. It's not pretty, but it will not quit until the job is done.
